Access to general spaces and/or offices
Most general areas in BEES are accessible by swiping your staff/student card against the card readers. Some offices are accessible by keys only.
New staff/students to BEES should see Lucy Dobson in the School Office (Room 520, D26) to request swipe access and/or keys. You will need to provide your zID at a minimum. It is a condition of access that you complete the following within two weeks:
|Course name||Course number||Comments|
|On-Line Work Health & Safety Awareness (Online)||HSEAWA||OR Refresher Health & Safety Awareness – HSEREF every three years|
|On-Line Ergonomics (Online)||HSEEMT||OR Refresher Ergonomics & Manual Tasks – HSEERF every three years|
Responsible Employee (Online)
|RESPON||OR Responsible Employee Refresher HRRERF|
|Sexual Misconduct Awareness (Online)||
|The BEES Building Induction (Face-to-face)||These are held on Wednesdays at 12.00pm - 1.00pm. Please email Lucy Dobson to be added to the next induction invitation list.|
You can also find instructions to enrol in training here. If you have already completed these courses, you do not need to redo them (except the refreshers if applicable to you).
Email Lucy Dobson after completing your training. Staff/students who do not complete the above within two weeks of starting will be given a one week notice period to complete, and after that will have their access removed.
Access to labs
Staff, students and visitors working in BEES labs are required to complete a range of UNSW training and inductions to get access to labs:
BEES Building Induction: These are held on Wednesdays at 12.00pm - 1.00pm. Please email Lucy Dobson to be added to the next induction invitation list.
Local Lab Induction: These are held at varying times depending on the specific lab. Refer to the List of BEES Facilities/Labs and get in touch with the contact listed for the facility/lab you want access to.

If you have already completed these courses, you do not need to redo them (except the refreshers if applicable to you).
Email Lucy Dobson after completing the inductions and training to have your lab access applied. Lab access will not be applied until you have completed the above.
Please note: volunteers and visitors working in labs must meet the same conditions that apply to staff and students i.e. they need to complete the BEES Building Induction and Local Lab Induction prior to accessing labs. They will also need to complete the training if they have a zID.
There are some additional requirements for volunteers. See Volunteer Approval Request HS010 to determine what is required for your volunteer.
In some circumstances it may be sufficient for an inducted lab user to accompany an uninducted visitor through the lab (e.g. film crew, tour of facilities); however, you must inform the lab manager ahead of time as it depends on the lab, activity, and level of risk. See HS414 Visitors to UNSW Facilities Guideline for more information.
