The weather in Australia is influenced by the strong jet stream to the South, warm waters off the East Coast, cold waters off the West Coast, and the moist and warm tropics to the North. In addition, there are remote influences such as El Niño, the Indian Ocean, and the stratosphere above. This project will use simplified yet fully nonlinear atmospheric model experiments to learn more about the individual contributions of some of these influences.

Required skills: Basic python knowledge would be a big plus, otherwise some other experience with coding. Interest in weather and climate as well as mathematical and physical understanding of wave phenomena.
