What is a Content Management System?
A Content Management System allows staff to make changes to their content on the website without having any previous html experience or knowledge. It installs a visual text editor in which information can be added and combines this with a presentation template which controls the layout, font type, size, bullet points as well a whole range of other functions to create a html page. The presentation template cannot be changed ensuring consistency across the site and preventing authors using their own individual styles and altering the look and feel of the website. Why was a Content Management System chosen?
Information on the site needs to be accurate and up to date and the responsibility for the content lies with the staff that deal with the information on a day to day basis. Rather than sending the updates through a web administrator, the Content Management System now enables staff to upload their information quickly and easily, ensuring it is up to date and accurate at all times. NSW State legislation also requires that we keep a record of all content changes to the website and the myCMS does this automatically. What system are we using?
The system we are using to update the content of our website is Interwoven TeamSite. Interwoven is one of the top 3 global providers of Content Management software. The UNSW customization of TeamSite is called myCMS. How the Content Management System work?
Text for a web page is created and edited in a Data Capture Record or DCR. External files can be linked to and images imported into the DCR. After the DCR is sent for approval, the CMS automatically attaches the content to a presentation template and generates a html page for the web. ![]() TERMINOLOGY
