Objectives of FIS/2002/076 - pond-based project
  1. To develop farm-level site selection criteria based on physical, biological and chemical requirements for pond-based culture.
  2. To identify and describe environmental and management-based risk factors that are currently limiting productivity in Australian farms and to incorporate this knowledge into revisions of current regional aquaculture planning and mapping strategies
  3. To develop a land classification scheme and accompanying land capability maps as tools for sustainable and strategic development of land-based aquaculture in Indonesia.
  4. To develop a coastal aquaculture classification scheme for seacage and land-based aquaculture by combining and integrating the findings from this project and those of AICAR Project FIS/2003/027) on Planning for Environmentally Sustainable Tropical Finfish Culture.
  5. To enhance research capacity of participating agencies through training and further development of spatial information technology and its application.

Objectives of FIS/2003/027 - seacage project
  1. Establish a database detailing the environmental effects of finfish cages in Indonesian and Australian locations, by data mining and by direct measurement.
  2. Adapt/develop an appropriate model to determine carrying capacity of tropical marine coasts for fish cage culture.
  3. To develop a coastal aquaculture classification scheme for seacage and land-base aquaculture by combining and integrating the findings from this project and those of ACIAR Project Land capability assessment and classification for sustainable pond-based, aquaculture systems (FIS 2002/076).
  4. Facilitate adoption of project outputs by Indonesian agencies.
