My empirical research focuses on flies (especially Neriidae and Piophilidae), and other insects. Follow the links below for more information.
Australian Neriidae: In my research on sexual dimorphism, I am using neriid flies in the genus Telostylinus.
Australian Piophilidae: I am also interested in the Australian piophilid flies. This is a male Piophilosoma norrisi.
Antler flies (Protopiophila litigata): because of its amazing site fidelity, associated with extreme specialization on discarded cervid antlers, the tiny antler fly offers unique opportunities to obtain longitudinal life history data on wild insect populations. Antler flies are found in Canada.
Waltzing flies (Prochyliza xanthostoma): this beautiful insect provides a fascinating laboratory and field model for the study of sexual selection and sexual dimorphism. This species is widely distributed in North America.
