PURCHASING

UNSW Compliance:

The purchases of all goods and services within the School of BEES must follow the criteria outlined in the UNSW Purchasing Guideline. The Pre/Post Purchasing Checklist should be used prior to taking delivery of any goods and/or services.

Before purchasing plant or equipment, a risk assessment should be completed to identify any relevant OH&S issues, e.g. additional safe guards (PPCE), training and/or maintenance schedules. Upon delivery of new plant or equipment, a Safe Operating Procedure must be produced and staff operating the equipment should be appropriately trained before the equipment is commissioned for use. Electrical items should be BEES tagged before initial use and the risk assessment should identify the frequency of future electrical testing required.

When purchasing any hazardous or dangerous substances you must ensure that
  • Proper storage facilities are available
  • All documentation, risk assessments and MSDS are available
  • All staff and students will be properly trained in the handling and usage of purchases
  • Chemical Register is updated
Please see Chemical Safety for further details

When purchasing services the contractors must be made aware of their OH&S responsibilities and must receive a formal safety induction.
