OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY IN BEES

In the event of an emergency please phone Security Services on 56666

The University of NSW has implemented an Occupational Health and Safety Management System to ensure the working environment of employees is safe and that their health is not at risk.

To comply with UNSW's OH&S Policy, it is the responsibility of supervisors to ensure these OHS Guidelines and Procedures are established in their respective work areas and research units and for all staff and students in BEES to follow them.

BEES OHS COMMITTEE MEETING

Committee Meetings are normally held on the third Thursday of each Month (except January).

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, 3rd July 2008 at 9.30am in Room 608.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING OH&S ISSUES WITHIN BEES

Compliance in Wearing of PPE
David Hair and Chris Myers have visited some classes to monitor compliance of wearing personal protective equipment such as lab coats, protective goggles and correct foot wear (closed shoe and closed back). Further instances of inadequate footwear and of lack of labcoats were found.

Supervisors are asked to monitor compliance and insist students wear adequate PPE. Chris and Dave will continue inspections.

Staff/Student/Visitor Inductions
Are procedures in place to ensure that staff/researchstudents/visitors are aware of risks associated when entering your laboratory?
  • Do you check that they have Risk Assessments for any work that they are undertaking?
  • That such procedures are documented?
As a supervisor please ensure that these procedures are in place in your workplace.
