BEES Seminar

Dr Andreas Peuke
Frieberg University, Germany
Thursday 16th March at 4.00pm in Room 456

Solute and water transport in intact Ricinus plants
Dr Andreas Peuke is visiting Australia from Frieberg University, Germany, where he is currently leading research efforts in stress physiology (salinity, drought, heavy metal, nutritional disorder), xylem and phloem transport, phytoremediation, biological safety of transgenic plants and general plant physiology. During the 1990s Dr Peuke collaborated with John Pate (UWA) in a research program to quantify long distance transport and partitioning of nutrients in Ricinus (castor bean) plants. More recently, Dr. Peuke has been collaborating with the University of Wageningen (NL) on a research program using fast Nuclear Magnetic Resonance micro-imaging to study the dynamics of flow in xylem and phloem.

In this seminar Dr. Peuke will provide a summary of his decade and a half of research applying novel techniques to the study of solute and water flow in Ricinus and potential application to eucalypts.
