Current controversies surrounding the human genus
In this talk I will summarise some major current research questions about the genus Homo. I will explore issues surrounding the composition, distribution and nature of Homo habilis, controversies and implications deriving from the new finds in Flores (the 'Hobbit'), questions about migrations of Homo erectus and its evolutionary role, and controversies about the origins of modern humans and the key place that Pleistocene Australians hold in this debate.
