PhD Scholarship Available NATURAL HAZARDS RESEARCH LABORATORY
One fully funded PhD scholarship worth $22,500 per year for three years is available in the new Natural Hazards Research Laboratory, School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, UNSW on a project entitled: 'Testing the Australian Megatsunami Hypothesis'. This project is funded by a grant from the Australian Research Council to Dr Dale Dominey-Howes.
The successful applicant will be required to enrol as soon as possible and the position remains open until filled.
The project is to examine Holocene records of coastal environmental change and possible evidence for tsunami and storm surge flooding. One PhD project has already commenced and this second project will focus on the coasts of either NSW Australia or the west coast of New Zealand. Funds are available to support all travel, research and field expenses as well as international conference attendance and technical training.
Applications are sought from suitably qualified candidates with either a first class Honours degree and/or Masters by Research in physical geography, geomorphology, sedimentology, micropalaeontology, earth sciences, coastal studies, environmental studies or natural hazards. In addition to these core skill areas, applicants who have demonstrable capabilities in GIS, remote sensing, modelling and/or hydrodynamics/mathematics would be particularly welcome.
