APPLICATION AND ENROLMENT PROCEDURES You may enter the Honours Year at the beginning of either S1 or S2, and take it either full-time (for 2 sessions) or part-time (over 4 sessions).
If you are interested in starting in S2 of 2009, it is wise to consult with a potential supervisor at the end of the calendar year (end of S2 2008), as supervisors usually plan (both financially and logistically) for the calendar year and may fully commit themselves well before the start of S2 in 2009.
A pre-honours meeting for all interested 3rd years is held around Week 7 of each session. Students will be advised of the exact time and location of this meeting via announcements made on the BEES website and 3rd year BEES courses on Web CT. Prospective honours students are also encouraged to attend the Introductory Seminars and Final Seminars given by honours students during S1 or S2. Details of these seminars are advertised via the BEES website and BEES explode emails.
Once you have a firm commitment from a supervisor fill in the BEES Honours Application Form and lodge it at the BEES Student Office (Room G12). Your application will be assessed to ensure that you satisfy the entry requirements and confirm your acceptance by a supervisor. Once your application has been approved then you will be notified via email to come and collect a letter of admission from the BEES Student Office during by mid-February. You have to then take the letter of admission and enrol in person at the Science Student Centre by the end of February (late enrolments are allowed but not encouraged). Note that the on-line myUNSW enrolment system does not support honours enrolments.
For students starting their Honours year in S2, you need to enrol the week before session commences and you will need to re-enrol in person in February (it's not automatic across years).
For further information or assistance with your Honours application please contact the BEES Student Office or email beesinfo@unsw.edu.au.
NON UNSW STUDENTS
Students from outside UNSW are invited to apply for Honours in the School of BEES. Outside students must also submit a separate application to enroll at the University, an "Application for Admission in 2004 Honours program" form, http://www.unsw.edu.au/futureStudents/undergrad/sad/HonoursWeb.pdf
This should be lodged with the UAC Admissions Office at UNSW (9385 3228), usually by early December for S1 start, and they will assess your grades and send advice of your application to the School via the Associate Dean. You must submit an academic transcript with your application. If final results are not available when you submit this application you must forward them as soon as possible together with a statement indicating that you have completed all requirements for the degree and are eligible to graduate.
You will be notified of the result of your application by mid February.
