ASSOCIATED RESEARCH AND TEACHING CENTRES

EVOLUTION & ECOLOGY RESEARCH CENTRE
E&ERC
The Evolution & Ecology Research Centre draws together the diverse strengths of 18 academic staff, 8 independent research fellows, and over forty postgraduate students from the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, the School of Mathematics and Statistics and the School of Medical Sciences at UNSW in Sydney, Australia.

The Centre's purpose is to build capacity for and quality of research, including postgraduate research and supervision. To do so, we provide seed funding for innovative new research collaborations, recognize excellence in research, learning and supervision, run an innovative Graduate Program in Evolution & Ecology, and engage in public outreach relating to evolution and ecology.

CENTRE FOR MARINE BIOFOULING AND BIO-INNOVATION
biofouling
The Centre for Marine Biofouling and Bio-Innovation (CMBB) at the University of New South Wales was established to be an international focal point for interdisciplinary research on chemical signalling between marine organisms. There are two primary aims of the Centre:
  1. To understand, in a mechanistic fashion, how the ecology and behavior of marine organisms is mediated by chemical signals, and;
  2. To apply this knowledge to the development of novel, environmentally benign, biotechnologies. To date, such technologies include inhibition of the settlement and growth of marine organisms on artificial surfaces (antifouling), interference with regulatory systems in microbial pathogens, and characterization of new classes of signalling molecules.

COOPERATIVE RESEARCH CENTRE FOR SPATIAL INFORMATION
Hymap
The CRC Programme is a Commonwealth Government initiative which aims to 'change the research culture' of Australia. Government funds are matched by industry support in a collaborative program that strengthens links between industry, research organisations and educational institutions. The CRC for Spatial Information provides specialised training and technology transfer in the spatial sciences.
